AMUSEMENTS.

The new programme submitted to a fair house at Bernard’s Pictures last night is a record breaker in every respect. A great variety of pictures is shown, and the films are out on their own for merit. “The Race for Life” is a Danish picture in thought, character, and action. The story itself is dramatic and sensational, with a deep tinge of quaintness, characteristic of its Danish setting. The plot is cleverly conceived, and excellently portrayed by the Danish actors, who seem to have their hearts in the work. It involves a murder, and the wrongful condemnation of an innocent man', and shows the subtleties of a noble woman to secure a confession from the real murderer the condemned man’s brother. The race for life ensues when the heroine gallops and ferries across country just in time to save her lover from the headsman’s axe. The views of the Henley Regatta proved extremely popular, and there are always many people who like to know how common articles are made. From the film depicting the making of load pencils there is any amount of education to be derived in tabloid form. Maurice Costello, that popular picture actor, figures in “Nemesis,” an intensely pathetic picture, but are so well acted that it interests and grips. It is a film that, leaves an impression on the mom or IQ and is not seen only to' be forgottenTirlmediately. “From Fireman to Engineer” is at once appreciated as something out of the ordinary. An American film, it is briglit,‘’ interesting, and provides’ some thrilling scenes. Pathe’s Animated Gazette and some good comics round off the programme, which will be screened, for the second time tonight.
