The House is discussing Mr Hedge’s motion censuring the Government for it® decision to use kauri sleepers for construction of the Kalgoorlie-Port Augusta railway in preference to more suitable timber. It urged the merits of jarrah, condemning the Powellising process. It was stated that the New Zealand Government cancelled the contract for Powellising white pine sleepers, owing to the decay of some after two years. The process is still in its experimental stage. Mr O’Malley, replying, said that the motive behind the motion was the defence of a monopoly, and gave ini stances to show that Powellising wat an effective preservative. The Commonwealth Government ap peals to the Privy Council against the Coal Vend Court for leave to appeal in the Sugar Commission decision.
