IN THE COURTS.
GISBORNE SESSIONS. LIGHTERING CHARGES. (Per PressiAssociation.) Gisborne, September 19. The Supreme Court was occupied in a case of considerable Interest wherein the Tyser Lino, Ltd., and John Mann Hart (master of s.s. Star of Canada) were the plaintiffs .and tlf6 Gisborne Sheep-farmers’ Frozen Meat Company, Ltd., were the defendants. The claim was for £sß24’and interest, being the amount of alleged salvaging for lightering in connection with the salvaging of frozen meat from the stranded steamer Star of Canada. Tiie total amount paid for lighterage was £8363, and plaintiffs claim that the amount, according to Gisborne rates, should have been £2539. The defence sets up that the charges are fair considering the nature of the work, the men receiving up to four shillings per hour, and that the charges were, practically agreed to. RUSHED BY A BULLOCK. Gisborne, September 19.
A verdict has been returned for plaintiff for £l2l in the case W. B. Higston (stock inspector) v. Dalgety and Go., claiming £146 for injuries received, through a bullock rushing plaintiff at the saleyaads.
