DOMINION TELEGRAMS.
(Per Press Association.) Gisborne, September 19. Captain Stewart, of the Squall, states that the submerged object must have been a log, which struck the veissol amidships and dented the butt of one plate, starting five rivets. The steamer made water immediately. Amat was affixed over the damaged plate and three of the ship’s pumps kept the water in check. The mishap occurred just as the steamer cleared Tolaga about three quarters of a mile off land.
