The Kaiser has ordered a. searching investigation into the extension of life-saving appliances on passenger ■ships. The “Frankfurter Zcitung” censures Mr Ismay for abandoning the ship, and says he will bear the mark of Cain all his life. The “Lokal Anzicger” says the captain aimed, with criminal ruthlossuess, at a record Voyage. The “Germania” says the tragedy was a judgment of God, similar to the Tower of Babel. The “Yorwaerts” says the captain was the, victim of his irresponsible unscrupulousness, but, Mr Ismay was guiltier.

He was' once a newsboy.
