STRATFORD GUN CLUB.

CHAMPIONSHIP OF TARANAKI WON BY 9. J. TUCK.; The Stratford Gun Club are to be congratulated on the excellent sport which resulted from the shoot they organised yesterday. Taken as a whole the shooting was not up to standard, and thirteen birds out of twenty-one should not be the best performance that the champion shot of laranak; is capable of putting up. Still, tie birds seemed very difficult to smash, and on more than one occasion a clay was picked up with a shot put clean through it. In the four rounds none of the thirty competitors succeeded in putting-up a possible, though,'towards the;last, fours were comparatively plentiful. In the third round 11. Harrison, N. Marsh. C. Tuck, R/L mu. Kirkwood, L. Kmickoy, and McKenzie wore in the'running, the remainder having given up. Ha-rrmon, or whom great things were expected, Jest 'his form in the last round, and Ms chances of the gold medal and £lB. Tuck, Marsh, and Linn secured in succession enough birds to bring tneir totals to thirteen, leaving McKenzie and Harrison a point behind with twelve, andiKirkwood and Knuckey both eleven. Interest in the tie was keen, so much so that the referee, Mr. W. L . Kirkwood, Mayor-elect, had to call tor( less comment, and a- fair hearing. Tuck took the mark first., but lost ins bird. The conditions being that the first miss puts a man out of the running, Tuck did not appear to have much of a chance. Linn took Ins position confidently, but had 110 bettei luck. Then Marsh had a shot, but hr also missed . The second time 1 uck made no mistake, and .smashed the day to smithereens, Linn again faded, but Marsh, brought down the clay in good style. In iris third effort Tuck, proved too pood xor Mnrsli, the inttei failing to follow the good example sot by his opponent in splintering the day. 'Pho winners are all members or the Stratford Gun Club, Tuck, who gots the gold medal and £lB, being a Toko man. Ho won by consistent shooting, and was heartily cheered on a very popular win. Marsh, second, gets £7 10s, and 11. Linn, third, £4 10s At. the .conclusion cheers were given for the referee, for the trapper, who performed his duUes excellently, and for Mr. Marr, for the use of his paddock. Great praise is due to the secretary, Mr. G. D. Hunter, inwhoss capable hands the organisation was placed.
