CAUSE FRICTION AT WALLIS ISLAND. THEIR POWER CURTAILED. (Received 4, 9.30 a.m.) Sydney, January 4. Dr. Borchard, a French resident of Wallis Island, has returned from a visit to France, where he went to consult the Colonial Minister in reference to trouble which for a' jong time has existed between the Resident and the Marist Brothers at the island. Dr. Borchard’s mission was to obtain authority to break the alleged overruling powers of the priests. He returns armed with tho special instructions of the Minister to deal with the situation. Ho declines to disclose details.
