IMPRESSION OF JAPAN

An interesting account of the impressions he had gained during a visit to Japan with a University football team was given yesterday afternoon by Dr b. J Wilson to the members of the Southland Travel Club. Dr Wilson visited the principle cities, but was most impressed with Tokyo, the capital, with its population of 6,000,000. This city had been almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1923, but had since been rebuilt into what must be one of the most modern cities in the world. In the centre was the Emperor s palace, which took up five square miles, Ui Wilson commented on certain similarities between the countries of New Zealand and Japan, but stated that the intense cultivation done by the Japanese was a revelation. MrA. W. Jones, the president, thanked Dr Wilson for his talk.
