Mrs Vincent Smith, Elies road, is visiting Christchurch. Miss I. Corkin, Taihape, is the guest of Mrs R. C. Knight, O’Hara street. Mrs Baker, Dunedin, is visiting Mrs H McCorkindale, Ettrick street Mrs S. Harvey, Gap Road, Winton, is staying with her aunt, Mrs J. Mulcahy, Sydney street. Mrs W. R. McGrath and family, Kelvin street, have left to take up residence in Wellington. , The hostesses at the Southland Travel Club yesterday afternoon were Mesdames y W. C. Cleine and W. A. Smith. Miss Mary Hawkes was the soloist and Mrs J. S. Brass played the accompaniments. Visitors who were welcomed were Mesdames Baker (Dunedin) and Govan (Riverton) and Miss I. Corkin. On Thursday night at 8 o clock m the UF.S. Hall, Major Jean Erwin, commandant of the W.A.A.C., Southern Military District, will address a meeting at which all women between the ages of 18 and 45 who wish to volunteer for national service are asked to attend. Women are urgently required for such branches of the service as anti-aircraft batteries, signalling corps, shorthandtvping and clerical work, general duties and canteen work. Inquiries should be made at the W.W.S.A. office, Wright, Stephenson’s building, Crescent, Invercargill.
