BLUFF NEWS
AWARUA BOATING CLUB.—The Avarua Boating Club opened the season in fine weather on Saturday. Mr A. E. Budd, president, welcomed the visitors and intimated to those present that the news of the death in action of their old club mate, Lieutenant Paki West, had just been received. After paying a tribute to Lieutenant West he asked all present to stand as a mark of respect. The Hon. T. F. Doyle, patron, mentioned that 42 members of the club were serving in the forces. He trusted that the coming season would be a successful one and that the junior members would keep the flag flying. The Mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick, declared the season open and vzished the club success. GOLF.—The winner of the Cochran Cup is Mrs Bragg, with Mrs Moon runner-up. In an eclectic match played on Saturday Mrs Eadie was the winner.
PRESENTATION TO SOLDlER.—Yesterday afternoon in the R.S.A. rooms the Bluff Citizens’ Service Committee met Gunner E. C. Albertson. On behalf of the people of Bluff the Mayor presented him with a money belt and a parcel of woollen comforts from the Women's Patriotic Knitting Guild. Other speakers were Messrs T. Spencer, E. A. Budd, H. W. Newman and H. A. Ferguson.
