PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS AT NIGHTCAPS
A public function in honour of Transport Driver T. C. Duncan, R.N.Z.A.F., and Mr and Mrs A. W. Brown, who are going to Port Chalmers, was held at Nightcaps. Mr D. Sinclair, chairman, spoke of the interest each had taken in district activities, and regretted their departure. In presenting Driver Duncan with the customary envelope from the local Patriotic Committee, he trusted he would enjoy good fortune and return to his family in the near future. He conveyed the best wishes of the district to him. Representatives of the Wairio Trotting Club, Rugby football and coursing clubs spoke appreciatively of Driver Duncan’s work and assistance at all times to their clubs and made presentations to him.
Mr J. J- Crampton spoke on behalf of the farmers in the Opio district. Driver Duncan replied. Mr and Mrs Brown were presented with a wallet and handbag by the chairman, who congratulated Mr Brown on his promotion and spoke of ene tact and ability in which he had carried out his public duties as local postmaster for the past seven years, also to the work both had done as members of various committees. Father Fenton, on behalf of the residents of the Wreys Bush district, congratulated Mr Brown on his promotion. Mr W. Excell spoke of the excellent work done by each of them in all patriotic matters. Representatives of the Post Office staff, the Wairio Racing and Trotting Clubs and the Coursing Club also spoke. Mrk P. R. Sinclair, on behalf of the W.D.F.U., presented Mrs Brown with a piece of Doulton wareMr Brown replied. f
