CONCERT AT WAIMAHAKA

As the result of a concert held at Waimahaka on Saturday night about £BO was raised for the local Red Cross funds and prisoners of war parcels. The Mayor and Mayoress of Invercargill, Mr and Mrs A. Wachner, were present, and before a nag collection was taken up Mr Wachner made an appeal to the audience to support the two causes. During the evening items were given by Mrs Melrose and pupils (dancing), Messrs V. Lea and Gilchrist (sketches), Mr M. Blackwood (songs), Mr J. Gilchrist and doll (ventriloquial items), Miss D. Foothead (song), Mr Palmer (conjuring turn), Mr P. L. Hodge (songs), Mr C. Hawes (song). Miss Foothead and Mr Hawes (duet). Each part of the programme began with community singing led by Mr Hodge.
