GORE NEWS

AGRICULTURAL LIME Because agricultural lime produced from the majority of the Otago works is coming into the Gore territory on an unrationed basis—the orders from Southland and some from Otago are being delivered on a rationed basis—a few farmers in the district are obtaining full supplies of lime while others are unable to get any through no fault of their own. As it is desirable that lime should be distributed on an equitable basis so that the available supplies will go as far as possible to maintain production, the Gore Council of Primary Production has decided that all lime deliveries in the district will, under the new scheme for rationing in the whole of Southland and South Otago, which comes into force on January 13, 1943, be on a rationed basis. All farmers will receive only their rationed amounts, and the surplus above rationed amounts will be used to supply those farmers who are at present unable to obtain any lime. Steps are also being taken to try to improve the amount of labour for lime works to assist the position of the farmers.

RETURNED SOLDIERS— SeveraI pension cases concerning Gore district men were discussed and instructions were given about the necessary action to be taken at a meeting of the executive of the Gore Returned Services Association. The financial membership of "the association, was reported, to now be 496, compared with 457 for the same period last year.
