GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

Senior Championship To D. Gibbs Beautiful weather yesterday helped to make the Southland Girls’ High School sports an outstanding success. In previous vears the sports have been held at Rugby Park, but this year it was decided to hold them at the Southland Boys’ High School grounds. Boys from the school were also present and during the afternoon several of their events, which are to be held today, were decided. A feature of the sports was the house marching, in which all the pupils took part. .The girls marched well to music from the Drum, Trumpet and Bugle Band of the Boys’ High School. Points were awarded to the different houses, making the rivalry very keen. Macalister House was an easy winner with 73 points from Gray House, 59>,i points. Strang House was third with 53 points. The results for the tabloid sports were: Galloway 28’/ 2> Gray 27>/ 2 , Macalister 27, Strang 17. . The winner of the senior championship was Deice Gibbs (15 points), who had an easy win from Elma Walker and Noeline Pedlar, who tied for second place with 6 points. The junior championship was won by Alys Holloway (13 points) from Joy Rowley 8 points, and May Tuffery, 4 points. Following are the results: — SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS 220 Yards.—D. Gibbs 1, E.
