E.P.S. COMMITTEE.— The protection of property from fire caused by enemy action is dealt with in a circular which has been prepared by the Gore E.P.S. committee. The circular, which was read at a meeting of the committee last night, is addressed to the business people of the town and will be issued shortly. All premises in the business area are required to have some suitable appliance at hand capable of dealing with incipient fires, the circular states. The immediate provision of recognized styles of fire extinguishers or an open 44-gallon drum filled with water was, therefore, recommended. The people concerned are asked to co-operate. The question of an emergency water supply for the Gore Hospital in the event of the mains being blown up during an emergency is under consideration, according to a report made by Mr G. C. Hamilton. COLLECTION OF RUBBER.— More than 32cwt of waste rubber, including about 150 motor tyres, have been collected by pupils of tire Gore Public School during the last three months, according to a statement made by the head master in a report to the school committee. GOLF. — In the final of the Gore Golt Club’s McCorkindale Cup competition H. APrice beat N. M. Sandes. 1 up. The match went the full 18 holes and at the seventeenth the players were all square.
