Avenal Flats, has returned from a visit to Queenstown. Mrs E. F. Nicoll, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs W. E. Hazlett, Filleul street, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs J. W. Walls, Dunedin, returns home today after visiting her mother, Mrs J. S. Brass, Beatrice street. Mrs W. Garrett. Dunedin, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs E. S. Solomon, has returned home. Mrs G. Wright has returned from Wellington and is staying with her mother, Mrs J. R. Derbie, Liddel street. Mrs R. G. Chartres, who has been visiting Mrs J. E. Bews, Dalrymple street, has returned to Geraldine. Mrs R. M, Strang and her daughter-in-law, Mrs Marguerite Strang, will arrive tonight from Christchurch. Miss D. A. O’Brien, postmistress at Orepuki. resumed duty yesterday after annual leave. Mrs Slruan Gardner, Lillbum. who was file guest of Mrs E. B. Pilcher, Spey street, returned home during the week. She was accompanied by Miss P. Pilcher, Spey street. The annual meeting of the Arts and Crafts Circle of the Southland Women’s Club will be held in the club rooms on Wednesday, October 21, at 2.45 p.m. At 3.30 p.m., after the meeting, Mrs H. S. Bridgewater will give a talk on war-time cooking to which all members are invited. — Advt.

At the October meeting of the League of Mothers, Mrs J. Stobo presided over a good attendance. Mrs G. M. Chapman gave an interesting and instructive talk on first aid, illustrating her lecture with a demonstration of bandaging. Mrs H. M. Rout sang two solos, accompanied by Mrs J. D. Campbell. A vote of thanks was passed to the speaker and the singer.
