PARADES THROUGH CITY
Units In Wednesday’s Ceremonies There will be two parades through the city next Wednesday on the occasion of the visit of the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The first will be the Air Force recruiting parade in the morning. The parade will be headed by the Air Force Band, and will comprise the No. 12 Squadron of the Air Training Corps, the Southland Boys’ High School flight of A.T.C. cadets, the Southland Technical College flight of A.T.C. cadets, and a detachment of 40 members of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force from a northern,air station. Flying Officer P. I. Maclean will be in command of the parade, which will also include members of .the Women’s War Service Auxiliary. Al Ithese unite will assemble on the hospital side of Victoria Avenue. The Southland Boys’ High School cadets and band and the Southland Technical College cadets and band will assemble on the war memorial side of the avenue under Major H. W. Slater. After being inspected by Squadron Leader S. L. Gilkison the parade will move off at 11.45 a.m. The salute at the Great War memorial will be taken by Dr A. Owen-Johnston, president of the Invercargill'R.S.A., at the South African War memorial by Mr R. N. Todd, president of the South African War Veterans’ Association and at the Town Hall by the Mayor, Mr A. Wachner. EVENING PARADE The second parade in the evening will be led by the Air Training Corps headed by the Battalion Boys’ Band. Next will come the 32nd Lines of Communication Company led by the Battalion Band. Members of the Invercargill battalion of the Home Guard will follow in two sections. The first section, which will be headed by the Civic Band, will consist of A Company, including the machine-gunners, D Company and Headquarters Company, including signalmen, pioneers and the medical unit. The second section, headed by the Home Guard Pipe Band, will consist of B Company and C Company, including the mortar unit. The Air Training Corps will be under (lie charge of Flying Officer Maclean, Captain S. R. Jones will lead the Lines of Communication Company and the Home Guardsmen will be commanded by Major J. E. Cuthill. Unite taking part in the evening parade are to fall in at 7 p.m. Home Guardsmen are to parade at their usual assembly points in Kelvin street. Both parades will go by way of Dee street and Tay street to the Town Hall. “Provided the weather is favourable I am sure that the visit of the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force to Invercargill next week will be a great success,” said Mr P. L. Hodge, chairman, at the meeting of the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee last night. Mr. Hodge said that the bookings for the concerts which the band would give in the city were very good, and arrangements were also well in hand for the I other functions and ceremonies. He wished to thank all those who had greed to billet the visitors and also all who were co-operating to make the visit of the band a success. The six Kittyhawk planes which were to come to Invercargill next week would be over the showgrounds between 3 and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and would give demonstration flights over the. city between 11.30 and 11.45 a.m. on Wednesday.
