VISIT OF KITTYHAWKS
Reply To Criticism A reply to a letter in The Southland Times criticizing the decision to send six Kittyhawk planes to Invercargill next week on the occasion of the visit of the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force was made by Mr P. L. Hodge at a meeting of the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee last night. The writer of the letter suggested that the sending of the planes would be a waste of man-power, planes and petrol. Mr Hodge said that men in training for the Air Force must make operational flights. They could not be trained by keeping the planes on the ground, and it did not very much matter whether the planes flew north or south. Besides, the planes were being sent to help to stimulate interest in recruiting for the Air Force.
