RETURNED SOLDIERS
Employment Found For 2000 (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 9. Nearly 2000 ex-servicemen returned from overseas service had been given employment, said the chairman of the Rehabilitation Board, Mr M. Moohan, at a meeting of the board. So far 5200 personnel, including 118 Maoris, of the New Zealand armed forces had returned from active service. Of that total 604 had not yet been discharged, 1047 were redrafted to military service, 78 were on privilege leave, 171 did not want help, 361 failed to report for assistance, and 397 were recuperating. Loans to ex-servicemen had been granted by the State Advances Board up to the end of July as follows:—Farms, 12 (amount, £25,215; residences, 51 (£49,360); tools of trade, 20 (£530); furniture, 226 (£18,538); businesses, 32 (£9333); total, £102,975.
