OBITUARY
MR ALEXANDER McALISTER The death occurred recently at Invercargill of Alexander McAlister, of Lumsden. Mr McAlister was bom in Lumsden in 1884, being the eldest son of the late Mr Archibald McAlister. He worked in his father’s blacksmith shop for some time and later took over the stationery business and railway refreshment rooms at Lumsden. In this capacity he became widely known to the travelling public. He married Miss Jessie Campbell Barrie in 1921 and there is one daughter. Mr McAlister was a returned soldier of the Great War. He was a prominent citizen of the district, supportirig. and taking an active interest in all activities. He had been a member and chairman of the Lumsden Town Board, president of the Lumsden Progress League, past .master and treasurer for many years of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Oddfellows’ Lodge, first president of the Lumsden B.owling Club and president of the Lumsden School Ex-Pupils' Association.
