STREET DAY NEXT WEDNESDAY
Effort For Prisoners. Of War All street activities in conjunction with the Returned Services Association’s big day on Wednesday next for prisoners of war are being organized by the Invercargill Traders Patriotic Assistance Committee. This energetic committee has a number of successes to its credit, but judging by the programme arranged, Wednesday’s effort should eclipse them all both in entertainment for the public and the raising of funds. The committee will be responsible for the selling of the “There’ll Always be an England” badges and purchasers are asked to attach them to car windshields or rear windows, to shop or office windows or to windows in private houses. Tin hats by the hundreds will be sold by a committee of women who are assisting the U.S.A. in the big effort. Two lorries will be busy all day disposing of remarkable “sudden death” rafles and many surprises are promised. The wellknown R.S.A. concert party will entertain from the dug-out and also from a lorry at various points in the ( city. The members of this party will also auction goods and some amazing bargains will be knocked down. The various expending agents of the patriotic funds are taking a lively interest in the day and the Catholic War Services Association, the Church Army, the Y.M.C.A. and the Salvation Army will have empty shops abundantly stocked with produce and novelties for sale. In addition the wags of the city will be out in full force to entertain and help make the day worthy of Southland and the cause which is so close to everybody’s heart.
