HOLIDAY ON LABOUR DAY
War Cabinet’s Approval (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 6. The War Cabinet has approved a recommendation from the Supply Council that Labour Day this year should be observed as a holiday throughout industry generally, according to an announcement by the Hon. D. G. Sullivan and the Hon. P. C. Webb today. The Ministers stated that after examining the matter from several angles the War Cabinet had decided that the long weekend provided by Labour Day, falling as it did on a Monday, would have a beneficial effect upon war production rather than detracting from it. Where workers were called upon to work on Labour Day they should, of course, be paid the appropriate holiday rates.
