SOLDIERS’ AREA AT CEMETERY

The new area set aside at the Eastern Cemetery for soldiers’ graves was inspected by members of the Reserves Committee of the City Council yesterday morning. Members of the committee present were Crs J. Pickard (chairman), W. J. Thomas, W. H. Boyes, G. J. Reed and T. Pryde. The Mayor, Mr. A. Wachner, the Deputy Mayor, Mr A. W. Jones, and the officer in charge of the city’s reserves, Mr W. Stapleton, were also present. The main purpose of the inspection was to assist the committee in arriving at a decision on the method of laying out the area, and it is expected that the committee will present a recommendation to the council at its next meeting.
