NEW HOODS FOR TRAM HEADLIGHTS
New hoods are being fitted to the headlights of the trains in Invercargill. The tramway manager, Mr A. C. Carman, who is also lighting controller for the city, said yesterday that the new hoods were so designed that the light would be thrown further along the track than was possible with the old hoods, and would thus make driving easier for the motormen at night time. The new hoods had been approved by the lighting authorities in Wellington. Mr Carman said that the recently gazetted lighting regulations did not call for any alterations in Invercargill. They dealt mainly with the lighting in inland towns such as Gore, Mataura and Winton. It was probable that new regulations governing motor-car headlights would be issued shortly.
