CHARGE OF HARBOURING

Sir, —In The Southland Times on August 22 I was horrified to read of the harsh attitude taken by the powers that be towards a mother in Auckland with six sons, all of whom had volunteered for military service. The youngest, a lad of 19, may have broken the law, but there was no reason why '

his mother should be dragged into court. With some of her boys prisoners and one killed in action, her cup of sorrow was already full and flowing over. Words fail me. Surely with a record such as hers there was a more humane way of approach than to surround and search her home. Mr Luxford referred to it all as State stupidity. A better title would be State brutality. BACKBLOCKS.
