(P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 20. Auckland sharebrokers have during the past few days experienced one of the busiest periods since the war started and business shows ,no sign of slackening. The turnover, especially in industrial securities, has been much heavier than in any southern centre and the demand appears to be spread over all classes of investors. The inquiry comes from those anxious to secure soundly-placed equities for long-term holding. Sellers who have held off for a long time are now meeting the advancing bids, and the values for many key stocks are back to the level reached before Japan entered the war. Australian shares have appreciated considerably, and the market as a whole has been stimulated by the Allied operations in the Solomons.
Mr R. C. Cook, chairman of the Invercargill Stock Exchange, said that in Invercargill there had recently been a demand for good, gilt-edged shares, but the demand was not so marked as to call for any special comment as had apparently been the case in Auckland.
