OATS IN STORE IN INVERCARGILL
REQUEST FOR RELEASE
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 20. An inquiry concerning the release of t some 60,000 bags of oats held in store in Invercargill for use as fowl and pig food was made by Mr W. M. C. Denham (Lab., Invercargill) in an urgent question to the Minister of Marketing, toe Hon. J. G. Barclay, in the House of Representatives today. He _ contended , that the release of a portion of the oats stocks in store would obviate the necessity for importation from Australia of a large quantity of barley. _ Mr Barclay, in reply, said oats were not popular with poultry farmers ana were too highly priced to compete with wheat, maize or barley and also were of inferior food value. It was urgently necessary to import Australian barley to increase the production of pig and poultry products by providing reasonably cheap food.
