STREET DAY APPEAL
CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY
An excellent response was made by the people of Invercargill yesterday when the Southland branch of the Crippled Children Society held a street day. From the stalls and the selling of badges on the street the sum of £132/1/- was raised and the house-to-house collection brought in £204/17/6. Generous donations of flowers and produce were made by town and country people, and the women members of the committee spent a busy day at the three stalls. The women selling the badges commented on the spontaneous generosity of most people, and it was not uncommon for a ten-shilling note to be put in the box in exchange for a badge. It ds hoped that there will be a good response to appeals that have been posted to country residents in order that the society will maintain its work at the present scale. Other parts of the province have been helping to raise funds, and an appeal will be made in Gore towards the end of the month. The final figures will then bn available for publication.
