GRADE TWO MEN TO BE RE-EXAMINED

MANY ALREADY IN CAMP (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 19. The medical re-examination of all grade two personnel serving in the New Zealand Military Forces was now under way, said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, today. A large number of men who had originally been placed in grade two had since their first medical examination spent a considerable period in training camps, continued the Minister, and it was confidently expected that the known beneficial effects of Army, training weujd have so improved their physique that upon re-examination they would be advanced to grade one. This would mean a valuable increase in the number of first-line troops fit for duty anywhere in the world without adding to the Army’s calls upon the country’s man-power. The information gained from these further medical boardings would also be of value to those responsible for carrying into effect the general policy of employing fit men in fighting jobs instead of leaving them in clerical and other posts that could be filled by men drawn from the lower medical grades. The re-examination would be Do-minion-wide, and this week, for instance, boards would be dealing with all grade two officers and other ranks on the Army Headquarters staff.
