SCHOOL CHOIR’S VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH

FOUR CONCERTS TO BE GIVEN Sixty members of the Southland Boys’ High School Choir will leave Invercargill for Christchurch by the express this morning to give a series of public performances. The choir will be accompanied by Messrs A. J. Deaker and G. H. Geddes (masters) and Mr Kennedy Black (choirmaster). The visit is being made at the invitation of the Christchurch Harmonic Society, whose conductor, Mr Victor Peters, has shown great interest in the, choir and who was responsible for a similar visit which was made last year. The choir will give concerts tomorrow evening and on Thursday night and demonstration concerts for primary and secondary school children will be given in the afternoons of both days. The concert on Wednesday night will be broadcast by 3YA. While the boys are in Christchurch the singing of the choir will be recorded. One record will include “Silent Night” and “Invitation Vocal Waltz,” another “Benedictus” (composed by Mr Black) and “Romeo and Juliet Waltz,” and a third, by the school sextet, the national song “New Zealand” .(composed by Mr Black) and “Creation Hymn.” The choir, which will be accompanied by five instrumentalists, will return to Invercargill on Saturday night.
