Lieutenant-Colonel H. C. Mackenzie, officer commanding No. 12 military area, left for the north on Sunday evening on official business. Flying Officer R. P. Hull, of Dunedin, adjutant for Otago and Southland of the Air Training Corps, arrived m Invercargill .yesterday.
The Mayor of Bluff, Mr N. W. McGorlick, left for Wanganui by Sunday night’s express. He expects to be away for a month.
Mr J. Boyle was met by the literary staff of The Southland Daily News before leaving for camp and presented with a gift. Mr A- £■ Perrin, sub-editor, made the presentation on behalt of the staff and wished Mr Boyle success. Lieutenant G. H. Chittock, officer commanding No. 3 Platoon, A Company, Invercargill Battalion’ of the Home Guard, who has been transferred to Dunedin, was bidden farewell on Sunday. Mr C. W. Jones, who has taken over the command, and Sergeant N. L. Watson spoke in appreciation of the services of Lieutenant Chittock with the Home Guard. Captain J. L. Cameron, officer commanding the company, spoke in appreciation of Lieutenant Chittock’s services to the platoon and the company as a whole.
