MARIST DEBATING CLUB

Mr G. C. Meffln presided over a good attendance of members at a’ meeting of the Marist Debating Club. The evening was set down as an “open night.” The subjects chosen were varied, some being of a serious nature and others light and entertaining. The speakers and subjects were: Mr T. Floyd (“Experiences in Fiji”); Mr P. King (“Democracy”), Mr F. G. Culling (“Importance of Good Reading”), Mr J. F. Holloway (“Hibernian Catholic Benefit Society”), Mr K. Reidy (“Scouting Party at Sandy Point ), Mr M. Reidy (“Deisel Engines”), Mr E. Maloney ("The Power of Fear”), Private C. Mulvey ("Recent Earthquakes"). The chairman expressed the thanks of the clubs to those members who had taken advantage of the “open night” to speak on a subject that appealed to the speakers and that was of interest to the members.
