DEMAND FOR TYRES.—Seventy-five applications were received by the committee in charge of the distribution of cycle tyres and tubes in the Gore area at a meeting last week. Only 75 tyres are allocated for the district for a month and discretionary powers had to be used in accordance with the official priority list. The demand for tyres appears to be greater than that I°* tubes. Some of the applicants failed to state their occupation and the special worK for which tyres were required in making their applications. There is no place on the form for this information, but it is necessary that it should be given. MINIATURE RIFLES.—A claim that toe membership of ■ the Gore Miniature Rine Club was a record for any club in Southland was made by speakers at a social held by the club when the prizes won during the year were presented. It was stated that the club had a membership of 74 and it was considered that no other club in Southland had ever reached this number of members. Mr J. T. Taylor was Chairman and associated with him was Mr W. Webb, president of the Eastern Southland Miniature Rifle Sub-Association. There was a good attendance of members. The presentation of prizes was made by Mr Webb, who congratulated -the successful members. The championship was won by A. Falconer, this being his second success in two seasons, A. H. Davidson won the B grade championship and Miss Gwen McLeod won the women’s championship. GOLF.—The August medal match of the Gore Golf Club was played on the dub 3 links at Croydon at the week-end. The match was won by J. P. Bishop, who returned a card of 89-15-74. K. E. Sutherland was runner-up with 89-14-75. The next best cards were: A. T. Strang 95-16-79, J. T. Taylor 96-17-79. PERSONAL.—Mr J. A. Donaldson, wno has been attached to the clerical staff at the Gore railway station for the last two years, has left for Auckland, where he will undergo training as a telegraphist in the Royal Navy. , Telegraphist Robert Everlss, only son of Mr G. Everiss, of Gore, has returned north to resume his naval duties after a period of leave. Before his departure he was met by the Mayor of Gore, Mr W. D. Shelton, and presented with a cheque on behalf of the citizens.
