WOMEN’S HOCKEY

INVERCARGILL BEATS MATAURA

In a women’s hockey match at Queen’s Park on Saturday afternoon Invercargill defeated Mataura by six goals to four. The game was bright in patches, but neither team was brilliant and the players showed that they had suffered from a lack of regular games. Both teams were short and played 10 a-side. The Invercargill team showed all-round superiority, but the Mataura backs combined well on occasions. J. Adams played well for Mataura and among the Invercargill players, M. Howie, L. Fraser and L. Purvis were outstanding. For Invercargill L. Purvis scored four goals and H. Monk and J. Wallace two each. The scorers for Mataura were J. Adams (two goals) and V. Brewster and M. Irwin (one goal each). Mr D. Miller controlled the game.
