50 BALES OF WASTE PAPER SENT TO MILLS

The first lot of waste paper from the depot in Esk street was sent to the paper mills yesterday. It consisted of 50 bales. Mr J. Pickard, chairman of the Southland Committee for the Reclamation of Waste Material, stated yesterday that although the response to the call for women volunteers to work at the depot had been good, the services of more women could be utilized. This was particularly so because with the school holidays coming on the services of a number of the present workers might not be available for a week or two. Mr Pickard added that assistance in sorting was being received from school children. Last Saturday morning pupils from the Girls’ High School worked at the depot, and this weekend they were to have the services of Otatara school children.
