RESTRICTION ON SALE OF TYRES AND TUBES

(PA.) WELLINGTON, August 13. Because no specific prohibition was placed on the sale of tyres and tubes when a new cycle was purchased, said the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullvan, persons had used this omission as a <means of procuring tyres and tubes. Cases had been instanced where a tyre and tube had been attached to a bicycle and sold as a fixture. This might have been within the provisions of the regulations, but was certainly not in accord with the spirit of them. To close this gap an amendment to the regulations had been framed prohibiting fitting new or retreaded tyres or any tubes to a cycle for sale unless all the provisions of the bicycle tyre and tube control notice had been complied with. In other words, a cycle could be sold, but a permit was necessary for the sale of tyres and tubes.
