EMPIRE SHOOTING TROPHY
SOUTHLAND SCHOOL EQUALS RECORD
In the final shoot for the Earl Roberts shooting trophy, the Southland Boys’ High School team put up the record score of 301 out of a possible of 320. This score has been equalled only once before—by the Otago Boys’ High School team. Last year the school team scored 286, which was the highest score put up, but because of the dislocation of mails the score did not arrive in England in time to be included, so that the trophy was awarded to the Melbourne Church of England Grammar School. In the elimination shoot during the holidays the school team scored 288, a score which caused it to be chosen to represent the Southern Military District in the final shoot. This took place last Monday, when, In spite of the strong wind blowing, two of the team dropped only four points in 80. The following are the detailed scores: Sergeant H. C. B. Rowley and Corporal C. W. Snow, 76 points; Corporal A. M. Bradfield, 75; C.Q.M.S. V. C. Officer, 74. Cadet (acting N.C.0.) D. B. Doake was fire-control N.C.O and Lieutenant A. G. Geddes coached the team.
