SECOND FIGHTER AEROPLANE
GIFT ACKNOWLEDGED BY PRIME MINISTER
Acknowledgment of the cheque for £10,500 for the second fighter aeroplane presented by the people of Southland to the British Government was received in a letter to Mr W. F. Sturman, secretary of the Southland' Provincial Patriotic Fund, from the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) yesterday. “It is noted that the presentation is made in recognition of the magnificent work of the Royal Air Force and that it is the wish of the donors that, if possible, the aeroplane should be named Southland II and flown by a New Zealand airman,” the letter stated. “I shall be pleased to arrange for the transmission of the money as requested and for the wishes of the donors to be conveyed to the United Kingdom authorities.”
