QUEENSTOWN

CENTRAL PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE A meeting of the Central Committe of the Lake Zone Controlling Patriotic Committee was held in Arrowtown. Those present were Mr D. H. Cockbum (chairman) Messrs Lee, Fix, Gibbs, Douglas, W. S. Reid, Griffen, Inglis and Dr. Anderson.

A letter from -the Wanaka Sub-Zone Committee enclosing a resolution to the effect that a compulsory tax of one penny in the £1 be instituted throughout New Zealand was received. It was resolved to advise the Wanaka Committee- that the Zone Committee was not in favour of the proposal. A letter was received from the Christchurch Tramway Patriotic Committee inviting a donation for the fitting up of new premises for the Christchurch Welcome Club. It was resolved to refer this matter to the Otago Patriotic Committee. It was resolved to write to all SubZone Committees to make an effort-to raise funds for Christmas parcels for men on service.

The secretary intimated that the Air Force Co-ordinating Committee had requested that arrangements be made for a concert to be held in Queenstown on September 20 at which Miss Mary Pratt would appear and give items. The secretary was instructed to make the arrangements.
