WAGES OF EMPLOYEES OF CITY COUNCIL

INCREASE FOR WORKERS NOT UNDER AWARDS

Employees of the Invercargill City Council who are not subject to awards and did not benefit from the general order of the Arbitration Court increasing wages by 5 per cent, will receive an equivalent increase in wages as the result of a decision by the council last night. The Finance Committee reported that the Baths and Library Committee had asked the Finance Committee to consider the matter as affecting all employees of the council. The committee recommended that a 5 per cent, increase in remuneration be granted to employees other than those covered by awards, provided that in no case shall the increase exceed £l5 per annum; the increase to take effect on the first pay day after the council meeting. Cr F. A. Webb proposed the adoption of the report of the committee and appealed to all councillors to support it. He- said that if the increase were not granted those who did not benefit would suffer 'a cut in wages in comparison with those covered by awards. The recommendation was adopted.
