WOMEN’S DIVISION BALL
The Fairfax hall was packed recently when the Fairfax Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its annual ball. Mr J. Mitchell was master of ceremonies and Miss P. Cook and Mr K. Fraser played extras. During the evening Mr G. Meek, on behalf of the Farmers’ Union, thanked the women for the entertainment and asked for gifts for Christmas presents for the soldiers overseas.
CARD EVENING AT RIVERTON WOMEN’S BOWLING CLUB ASSISTS PLANE FUND
A card evening organized by Mesdgmes G. H. Webb and D. F. MacDougall on behalf of the members of the Aparima Ladies’ Bowling Club was held in the Kia Ora rooms, Riverton. The proceeds of the evening, which amounted to over £l3, have been forwarded to the Fighter Plane Fund. Mr H. E. Philp, vice-president of the Aparima Bowling Club, presented the prizes to the winners of the aggregate for the season, Mr J. Stirling for the men and Mr L. McNeil for the women. The runners-up were Mrs G. Dickson and Mr D. MacDougall. The prize for the women was presented by Mr G. H. Webb and the men’s prize by Mr D. Alexander. Spring flowers and cakes were auctioned, and at the close of an enjoyable evening Mr Philp expressed thanks.
Donations received during the evening were: Mr A. Lette £2, Mr W. McMurtrie 10/-, Mrs W. McMurtrie 10/-, Mr A Castle 10/-, Mrs G.H.Webb 10/-, Miss Woodward 5/-. Other donations totalled £l/5/3.
