RESERVE BANK BILL
OPPOSITION LEADER’S VIEWS. (United Press Aran.-By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 10.35 p.m.) Canberra, June 3. Mr Latham, Leader of the Opposition, speaking in the House of Representatives on the Central Reserve Bank Bill, said that the Government obviously sought to control currency and credit in order to achieve political and social objects and ultimately place the control of banking in the hands of the people. This opinion was strengthened by the decision reached at the recent Federal Labour Conference, which asked the Government to establish credit and provide £20,000,000 for unemployed relief works. There was not the slightest doubt that the Government intended to depart from the canons of sound finance. He hoped the Senate would reject the Bill.
