Sydney, June 3
Trapped in the centre of a cyclone the steamer Cadross, which arrived at Sydney last night, was pounded by mountainous seas and was hove to for 16 hours off Jervis Bay. Shipping generally suffered a severe battering. The motor ship Malabar from. Melbourne had the deck railing carried away. The Canberra, also from Melbourne, was damaged, seats were swept overboard, portholes smashed and cabins flooded.
Flood warnings have been issued in many parts of the State. Between Albian Park and Kiana on the South Coast there are huge inland seas. The coastal steamer Cobaki was blown from her moorings in the harbour during the night, and with the hulk Pendle Hill drifted ashore at Woolwich.
