TRAGEDY AT PESHAWAR

RIFLE ACCIDENTALLY EXPLODES. TWO CHILDREN KILLED. (United Press Assn. —By Telegraph—Copyright) Delhi, June 1. While a lance-corporal on duty at Peshawar Gate was cleaning his rifle it accidentally exploded, killing two children and severely wounding their mother, who were passing by. The Chief Commissioner promptly placarded the city explaining the occurrence, expressing profound regret, and offering any reparation in his power.

The affair caused much excitement. Largo crowds gathered and had to be dispersed by the police and the military. The crowd attempted to snatch a rifle from the hands of one military patrol, who fired in selfdefence. An official estimate of the casualties shows that seven were killed and nine wounded.
