Fruit and Vegetables: A consignment of Island oranges arrived during the week, and as the condition was indifferent, low prices ruled. A shipment of bananas is now due, and will be sold on arrival, probably to-day. Lemons arc at present very scarce, but a consignment is expected at an early date. The market is well-supplied with Valencia oranges, and low prices are ruling. Apples are still in heavy supply and sales are slow. Dessert pears are in heavy supply. Prices for the week averaged as follows:—Apples, choicp Delicious, Jonathon and Stunners 6/6 to 8/6 case; others 5/- to 6/-; cookers, large 5/6 to 6/-; pears, dessert 2/6 to 3/6 half-case; dumps to 8/-; cookers 2/- to 4/-; oranges, Island, 15/- to 19/- case; Valencias 11/to 15/-; lemons, N.Z., to 31/- case; grapes 18/- case; tomatoes, hothouse, to 7d lb, outdoor Id to 4d lb; quinces to 21d lb; cabbage Id lb; cucumbers 3/- to 8/- dozen; parsnips to Hd lb; onions to 4/6 bag, potatoes 6/6 cwt; honey, 601bs 27/6, lOlbs 6/-, 51bs 3/6. General.—For Sale: Fruit, confectionery, soda-fountain, ice-cream business, situated in main street, with living rooms attached. Stock and plant at valuation, approximately, £l4O, plus value improvements £6O. Reasonable rental. We also .have other businesses for sale, and invite inquiries. Bray Bros., Ltd. Furniture.—Showroom upstairs. Steady demand for all furnishing lines. Three rooms furnished completely, including linoleum, for £3O. Two rooms for £22 10/-; dining chairs 9/-; kitchen chairs 8/-; child’s high chairs, with tray 21/-; duchesse chests from £3 12/6; betlsteads from £3 15/-, including wire mattress. Inspection invited. F. BOWDEN AND CO. Messrs I*’. Bowden and Co., report apples in over supply and prices are ruling exceptionally low. Full supplies of pears are coming to hand, but stocks arc not above normal, and from now on supplies will be expected to ease off and prices firmer. Ripe bananas, lemons, mandarines, grapes and Island oranges are available in small quantities. Only a small shipment of Samoan bananas are advised ex Maui Pomare and these will be sold to-day. Navel oranges will be arriving towards the end of the week. Cabbages are etill selling in buyers’ favour. Cauliflowers are short of requirements, full supplies of all other vegetables in season are coming forward, prices remaining reasonable for buyer and seller. Table potatoes are coining to hand more freely, but demand is better and most lines are finding buyers at late rates. Full stocks of oats, bran, pollard, oatdust, wheat, crushed oats, swedes, onions, mutton birds, etc. are on hand. The week closed with prices ruling:— Pears, dessert 3/- to 4/-, cookers 2/6 to 2/9; grapes IS/- half-case; bananas, ripe 27/- to 30/-; apples, dessert 5/- to 7/6, cookers 6/6; lemons 25/-; mandarines 25/-; oranges, Island 14/- to 17/6 case; tomatoes, local hothouse 9d, outdoor 2.}d to 31 d lb. Vegetables, Produce, Etc. —Jam melons 2]d to 21d, carrots Id to lid, parsnips lid, beet 21d, honey 6d lb, wheat 22/6 to 23/6; pollard 11/6; oatdust 5/-; onions 5/6 to 6/6; swedes 2/3 to 2/6; crushed oats 12/6; bran 11/-; oats 16/- to 18/-; sucroeine 18/- bag; celery 3/- to 4 6/-; cauliflowers 2/6 to 3/3; cabbage 1/- to 1/3 dozen; potatoes £5 10/- to £6 10/-; straw £4; hay £4 to £5 5/-; chaff £5 5/- to £5 10/- ton. Pigs.—Purebred Tamworth weaners 11 to guineas each, weaners 13/6 to IS/-; ferrets 15/-. We arc cash buyers of bacon pigs at full market rates, rail paid to Invercargill. Dpiry Cows: £l3, 3 at £ll 10/-, £7. Milk cans 15/-. Covers 14/6 to 17/6. ■ Horses: £l9 5/-, £l2, £9 5/-, £7 5/-, £4 12/6; saddle, £4; harness £3, £1 10/-; spring cart £8 10/-; trees 20/-; chains 3/-; covers 28/- to 38/6. Mutton was in better demand and showed a slight improvement in prices, loins realizing 2d to 21d, shoulders 3d to 31d, legs 6d lb. The usual supplies will be to hand on Wednesday and Saturday next. Timber, enormous.stocks of all varieties of sawn timber is on hand and sales continue to be extremely good, prices ruling 12/- to 14/- 100; totara posts £7 10/-; broalleaf posts £7 to £7 10/-; stakes 30/to 45/-; droppers 12/- to 14/- 100; strainers 7/- to 10/- each. A large quantity of second-hand timber was sold on Saturday at satisfactory prices. Doors 15/-, sashes 2/- to 20/- each. Tubs 27/6; copper 10/-. Clearing Sale.—On account of Mr T. McKay, Ltd., Exchange Mart, Invercargill; report as follows :— Produce. —Table potatoes, supplies ' still coming forward in excess of the demand, buyers only purchasing in small quantities. Full supplies of feed chaff on hand, but the demand continues slow. Canterbury onions are firm in price owing to the sharp rise in Canterbury, values from now will steadily increase and good quality onions are difficult to obtain. Pollard, bran, oats, oatdust have a steady sale. Mutton-birds are available, kits all sizes and counts. Special price for quantities. Fruit. —Business has been somewhat dull in the fruit market during the week. Con-<
signments of apples have eased and stocks steadily clearing out of store. There ie no immediate firming in the market but this should automatically take place. Pears are in heavy supply. A few Fiji bananas arrived during the week, but met a poor demand. Island oranges also came forward but the condition was .mixed. Large projtortion of the fruit in a wasted condition. Samoan bananas are due- to sell to-day. Quinces are wanted, Sydney fruits are due by the Waikouaiti, consisting of mandarines, oranges, lemons, pic melons and graphs. There will be very few pines expected for some time as the condition of the fruit is ndt good enough to handle. Current prices are approximately as follows: —Apples, dessert 5/- to 10/6, cooking apples 4/6 to 7/6; pears .2/- to 5/- box, according to grade and quality; quinces to 3d; grapes 8d; ripe bananas 30/-; cauliflowers 2/6 to 7/6; carrots to 9/-; parsnips to 9/-. General. —Sales include saloon chairs (six left), galvanized corrugated iron, new shipment expected in about a fortnight’s time, second-hand iron, galvanized iron tanks, 400's, 600’s, second-hand ranges, hothouse glass—fair quantity left, opossum traps, mantles, etc. Furniture.—Fair sales including Wilton carpets, sofa squares, tapestry carpets, hearth rugs, special prices for above before balance. The Anglo-Persian Oil Company showed a record profit of £5,206,761 and the year’s dividend was 20 per cent. - RABBITSKIN SALES. London, May 30. At the rabbitekin sales 2650 were offered and 920 sold. Hatters sorts, good, declined 10 per cent, compared with March sales; low grades twenty, farriers stout pelted slightly easier than pelted which were neglected. LONDON MARKETS.
