On Wednesday night the local Pipe Band held a euchre tourney and dance in aid of funds for uniforms. The night turned out very boisterous and cold, which no doubt had the effect of keeping a great many at their firesides. Nevertheless a fair number turned out and a very enjoyable game of cards was indulged in. The band turned out in force and played a few selections in the hall before the commencement of the euchre. Mrs. Williams was successful in annexing the ladies’ prize and Miss Violet Scobie secured the consolation, while Mr Raymond Walker, of Riversdale, annexed the men’s and Mr P. J. Dancing was indulged in until about 1 o’clock in the morning.
On Friday afternoon a fair crowd turned out to witness the schoolboys’ first game of football of the season, which always attracts terested spectators. The Balfour and Lumsden boys met in the first game of the Christie Cup competition of the season, the match resulting in a win for the local boys by nine points to three. The greasy state of the ball spoiled handling, and the game was confined for the most part to dribbling rushes, the Balfour boys, showing the advantage of their coaching, while the Lumsden side was lost in the finer points of the game. Those securing tries were: For Balfour, D. Lamb (2) and R. Roy; for Lumsden, K. Rogers. Mr. McMath controlled the game. .
