AMATEUR GOLF
THE BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP.
JONES’S NARROW ESCAPE.
(United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.)
London, May 29.
In the Amateur Golf Championship the ex-Australian champion, the Hon. Michael Scott, defeated the American Walker Cup player, von Elm, at the 20th hole. In the' sixth round, Bobby Jones (America) beat H. R. Johnston, the American amateur champion, one up, while Grant St. Georges beat Scott three up and one to play. Jones had another narrow escape, only beating Johnston by a ticklish putt on the last green. Jones, when four up with five to play, looked an easy winner, but Johnson fought back gamely till Jones was dormy one. Ten thousand people rushed to see the dramatic finish.
Jonee and Voight are the only Americans left in the last eight, and these two meet to-morrow.
