EAST COAST RAILWAYS

WORK HELD UP. DISPUTE WITH TUNNELLERS. (Per United Press Association.) Napier, May 30. Work on the Hotemaori tunnel on the east coast railway line, about 30 miles from Napier, is held up through a dispute between the tunnellers at the north end and the Public Works Department. It is understood that the trouble has been caused through the employment of a man who was once injured on railway construction work and was paid compensation by the Department. Pumping operations have ceased and the tunnel is said to be in danger of flooding unless the trouble is soon settled. The resident engineer of the Department at Napier declines to discuss the matter, evidently considering it a question for the Minister of Public Works.
