THE WHEAT SHORTAGE. MILLS SHORTENING HANDS. (By r Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, June 10. In view of the wheat shortage the Labour Party Conference resolved in favour of suspending the Imperial Government wheat contract till the end of the year. A number of mills are shortening hands owing to the want of gristing supplies. SEVERAL MILLS CLOSED. SYDNEY, June 10. (Received June 10, 11.20 p.m.) The wheat shortage is becoming more acute daily. Many mills in the country and suburbs have closed, and it is expected that the remainder will follow suit unless supplies are speedily brought from Victoria, jus there arc only sufficient stocks to last another two or three days. THE PRICE OF TEA. A DECLINE INDICATED. SYDNEY, Jnue 10. Indications point to a decline in the recent high prices ruling for tea. Two leading firms announce a reduction by 3d per lb. For some time rice has been practically unprocurable. The position has been relieved by the annual shipment. NEW SOUTH WALES RAILWAY STRIKERS. RIGHTS TO BE RESTORED. SYDNEY, June 10. At the Labour Conference Mr Estell stated that the Government intended to restore the rights of the 1917 strikers and the status of the de-registered unions. INTERNED GERMANS. OFFICIAL INQUIRY OPENED. MELBOURNE, June 10. (Received June 10, 8.5 p.m.) The Federal Solicitor-General has opened an official inquiry' into the cases of Father Jcrgcr and Dr Hirshfeld.
