SUPPLY OF TONNAGE

POSITION VERA’ SATIS FACTO IVY. STATEMENT BY MR MASSEY. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June S. The supply of shipping for frozen cargo from New Zealand has been extraordinarily good since the British oGvernrnent began to make a serious effort to take away from this country the accumniulations of meat in the cold stores. The Prime Minister said to-day that ever since the congestion in England was overcome the supply of ships appeared to have been very good, and it was keeping up very well indeed. If the present rate should be sustained the quantity of mutton in the stores at the beginning of next season, or at the end of the calendar year, would certainly not be more than the estimated quantity he had given to the conference of producers in Wellington some two weeks ago. That estimate was 2,500,000 carcases, but some of the shipping men at the conference had said that they would be able to do better than this. It appeared now that they might do so. The ships in sight for June loading would provide for 505,000 carcases, and for July loading 992,000 carcases. There were also a number of ships, some of which had already arrived, which were not included in this reckoning. They would take cargo also in June and July.
